The Story Behind Our Lip Balm 

Our lip balm is an all-natural recipe. It’s simple to make and has a smooth texture on the lips. We use beeswax in our recipe and it’s good for helping the texture solidify. Surprisingly, lip balm was not originally apart of the business plan for Thankful Sweets. The idea came in late 2018. I developed a huge obsession with chapstick. Therefore, I found myself carrying and using it all the time. I quickly realized I may be on to something here.

First Project – Jazzy Balm

For this project, I felt it would be fun to get my daughter involved. At 9 years old, I just knew she would enjoy making lip-balm. I made it worth her wild by allowing her to help with creating her own branding. We came up with a name for her product, “Jazzy-Balm”.  We even created cute custom holiday gifts for her cousins and friends. She was excited for a few days and like most kid projects, she got bored. Soon after the holidays, the excitement was over for her.

After a while, I seemed to be the only one still excited. I made a few batches and labeled them. I kept a few, then gave some away. The feedback I received helped to solidify lip balm would be a viable choice in our shop. I expanded the flavors along with adding two tube colors (Black and White) to allow customers additional options.

Researching the Product

Making our product successful would require understanding the need in the market. Asking questions like, “who would want this porduct” and “where could these products be used”. In conclusion, I found in my research, it would be perfect to celebrate birthdays, baby showers, weddings, corporate events, and similar occasions.  Check out our other article, “How Pinterest Inspired Thankful Sweets”. Happy with the End Product

The key to properly marketing this product would be to focus on customization in large quantities. Although our shop holds smaller quantities, on average, we receive orders of 50 tubes or more. Since adding lip balm to our shop we were able to diversify our offerings to customers. We’ve also seen orders that included both, gourmet popcorn and lip balm.
